Man On the Moon.
Our parents’ generation got to watch the first man walk on the moon.
I think I finally know how that must have felt.
“And to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright – tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.
For that is the true genius of America – that America can change.”
Full bit of history here.
i promise you, nothing will change, he is a puppet. there will be more war, more spying..basically everything under Bush, but with a fresh face.
I cried. Happy tears, of course.
I’m quite happy that Obama won.
Despite the fact that many of my favourite bloggers and other such strangers from the webbernet had sworn that if McCain won, they were moving up here to Canada. 😛
If anything happens to him, I’m moving to Canada. Or the Moon…
Dare to dream.
Skrapyard: You might be right, you might be wrong… but either way, I think we can all take pride in the fact that we’ve finally elected an African-American President.
That means something (a LOT of something, to a lot of people), no matter what the future holds.
we won some change….now we have to make sure it’s not just two bits in a wishing well. i guess i’ll hold off on emigrating for a while and give things a chance to actually get better for the first time in my memory!
and if we’re *really* lucky this might even give the GOP that push it needs to either clean up its act and become the party of Lincoln again, or if not then at least just die quietly & make room for someone else. This is the first time since Nixon’s embarrassment that we’ve elected a president who is genuinely and openly intelligent, for better or for worse.
And the bile rises.
But I am very proud of my country, and while I don’t think Obama is the leader of “change”, I do think he’s served at least as some sort of dumbbell for us to strengthen our arms in the pursuit of it. To some important degree, it’ll be easier to move things now, I think. We’ll see, I guess.
I hope you’re right, Alpha.
In other news, Prop 8 passed. Eugh.
A truly inspiring moment indeed.
Change is here and it feels good!
Arron. The color of someones skin is meaningless to me. If he was purple and still said the same type of things, I would still think the same thing of him. Im far more concerned with his policies than his pseudo-inspirational, teary eyed, non-sense about being the first black president. Im far more concerned with the fact that he hasnt come out against the Patriot Act, or torture. Im also very angry about how he wants to bomb the hell out of Afghanistan, and continue this bullshit “war of terror” Im very angry about how he wants to build a “civilian police force” (read: Stassi) Im very angry about how he and his controllers want to prod Russia and threaten Pakistan.
His whole campaign had a fascistic tone to it…and now the media is calling him “The One”, “The Saviour”, “The Messiah” Its like Im witnessing some sort of collective insanity and now Im seeing it here and among nearly all of my friends.
he is total establishment, he received 3 times the money from Wall Street that McCain did and 4 times the money from Goldman Sachs. His advisors are riddled with adherents the Preemptive Strike policy. And now with the new Democratic majority….well we now have no separation of power and they can now…..(ahem)….get things done….
We didnt elect anybody, the elections are a sham, 2000 and 2004 should be proof enough of that, they’re only around so people wont realize that we live in a two party dictatorship and to give us the illusion of choice. The people who really run this country, need him. They realize that people hate Bush and everything associated with him. So their giving the American empire a face lift….a fresh new black face….because everyone knows that black people can do no wrong…..you know, like Mengistu or Idi Amin.
we are headed for some very dark times
Be cynical all you want, people. I’m just happy to take a breath of fresh air and see stretched out in front of me a presidential term of time where there is finally a chance, even just a chance, things will get better.
I was with a bunch of friends rehearsing for a play when I heard the news, and we all went out and celebrated together. One of the best nights of my life, and what an eloquent speech.
hey skrapyard, i’m inclined to be cynical about anything a politician says too, but i’m even *more* cynical about what someone *else* says they said. know your sources, and remember that knowing them is not the same as trusting them.
I think the one thing everyone, Obama supporters and haters alike, can agree on is this:
Sarah Palin has no chance in hell of ever coming into power now, which is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to American politics ever. EVER.
