I suppose one question would be, “What can a witch do?” There are certain levels of healing that magic could probably simulate, and clearly Serenity healed her sword wound, but sealing a clean cut’s way different than reconstructing several complex body systems that have been blown apart.
More importantly in this case, how do you mend a shattered mind? It doesn’t seem that Maxine’s body is the only thing damaged…
And thanks for the full page! The half-page updates have been killin’ me!
Stilletta reattached her own jaw, so they are capable of some pretty radical self-repair.. However, I suspect that witches’ ability to heal themselves has more to do with their shape shifting abilities than anything else. The idea that this transfers into the ability to magically heal others is dubious.
If only Sera and Vicious could manufacture ectoplasmic legs…
I’ve noticed that every time Maddie complains about witches never doing a thing to help that there is no mention of her asking for their help. Did she ever consider that maybe the mere act of asking rather than assuming that they have an obligation to help, what with their powers and all, might actually bring her what she wants? I mean if she just asked Sera for the money or permission to take pictures of the cave that Sera would probably gladly have done all she could to help. She or some other witch might even be willing to take a crack at trying to heal Maxine if they just asked. At least then she would be more justified in saying they never do anything
Well… We saw Merrick getting a new arm by Valentine last volym. So it should possible for at least some witches to provide that. But probably with certian risk like… ugly mutations.
It’s not just that though. It’s saving someone’s life too. Maxine is stable, sure, but she’s bed ridden and delirious to boot. What kind of life is that?
I’m not saying Madeline is right, but she sure as hell isn’t wrong either. There’s a gray area, and this falls squarely in it.
Aw, don’t say you’re done with it… :< Allow me to try and change your mind: Sera is one very flawed individual. When Arthur Miller wrote his main character Willy Loman in Death of a Saleman he described him as a Tragic Hero. This was controversial because only heroes (knights, kings, and the sort) were only allowed to be tragic heroes. However, what makes a hero tragic? They always had a tragic flaw. Willy's was his idea that being popular and well liked gave you riches, not hard work. He sacrificed himself thinking he was doing a good thing. The thing is, Willy was actually kind of a dickhead though. Sera is the same… she isn't a good role model, Sera, after all her isolation because of her powers, is changing and is beginning to have an identity and not be so self absorbed. For most people her self realization is coming a little late in the game (she's 22 right?) and fickle behavior at that age could annoy anyone. It's kind of like, "Grow the fuck up already Sera!". On the other hand, it's like, DUH of course she had to put the breaks on her life there for awhile, she's had to deal with some crazy crap. I don't think she's cool with what Maddy did but at this point I believe she's tired of being alone and is willing to do anything. Maddy has such a hatred view of witches that Sera's just trying to help change it. Sera's flaw is always wanting to be a martyr.
jumping the gun on things a little bit aren’t we? just because maddy thinks it’s justified doesn’t mean the writer does, and last chapter pretty clearly showed that it was a shitty thing to do. sera’s meltdown reaction was understandable.
Also, you have to remember that Sera isn’t actually a “friend”. They were never actually close, Sera had a crush on Maddy (which may or may not have been returned) and they haven’t seen each other in YEARS. Adding that two cents to the before mentioned statement that the writer doesn’t say it’s justified, he’s just showing his characters feelings and thoughts.
Not unexpected… please continue…
If they only their society had a better health care system. 🙁

Not to mention remember that Merrick’s arm was reconstructed by that…Valentine guy after Stilletta chopped it off?

…so doing a vile thing (betraying a freind for money) is cool as long as there’s a romantic reason for doing so.
Okay, I’m done.

Whoops~ forgot a bit!
Sera’s flaw is always wanting to be a martyr. That should be interest enough to see where this can take us!

What’s this? Human beings are morally complex animals with behaviors that don’t fall into objectively “good” or “bad” categories?
Oh my stars and garters what a shock.

Now I honestly wasn’t expecting this, but this has just became more fuel for me to read.
high fructose corn syrup…oh nebraska….
Did you just randomly choose Broken Bow as a place for your comic, or do you have a reason? Because that is… *insanely* close to where I live
