Aww, this is far too cute for me to stand! (You made me squee on a public bus, Mr. A!)
I’m really scared for when this is going to turn bad; but for now, I can rest safe in the knowledge this page will fit with any disney song of my choice.
I don’t think there’s been anything ominous about Maddy at all thus far… Sure, she has some ill feelings about her past and what was done to her, but she obviously is a lot more out going than Sera — Heck, when Tess gets mad smoke comes out of her head… If you take away the witchery, this seems like a pretty normal interaction between two people who honestly don’t know that much about each other. Sera is ok with Tess’s outbursts simply because she is familiar with them (she has even made negative comments about witches before too). Maddy is certainly holding some feelings of resentment towards those who injured her as well as those that she feels should have helped her -remember.. “you never do anything!”- This is not the first time we’ve seen her get angry due to what she feels are unfair circumstances that are working against her. …and hell, she’s had a few to drink. The girls just venting and Sera’s uncomfortable because, well, that’s how she is. But heck, we’ve all been a little uncomfortable in a situation like this at some point or another. If a situation like this made [you] feel threatened though… well, I think [you] might be a shut-in, or possible have some very, very severe trust issues that [you] might want to take a look at.
There is an interesting blog where folks recount bad dates, and i’ve read a few stories where some folks felt like they were in danger simply becasue their date was in a bad mood, when yeah… someone being a little grumpy, or in Maddy’s case here, venting, may not be particularly appropriate for a first date (if that is in fact what these two are on here), I don’t think she has any intentions of harming Sera. Hell, she’s probably unfomfortable too, and she’s probably not even thinking about how what she’s saying relates to Sera. So, is she a little self centered.. yeah. But dangerous… I don’t think we have any evidence that points to that at all yet.
Frankly, I’ve been pretty confused at some of the past comments telling Sera to “run for her life” so to speak simply ’cause Maddy’s seems to be harboring a bit of anger about some of the bad things that have happened to her, but when we caught up on her past, Aaron never mentioned her harassing witches and hurting small animals in her spare time between being a art school kid and a pro photo gal. So, until the evidence shows us otherwise: Chill folks. Give the girl a chance. Someone’s “stupid heart” is apparently gonna be broken, but we really don’t know who yet.
I felt similar things when reading the other’s comments, but didn’t quite know how to articulate them. Even though I could kinda see where the apprehension was coming from, it felt a little over the top and I didn’t know how to explain why. You did so splendidly.
I’d agree.. if this weren’t a comic. At this point, I’d either say that something really bad is going to happen, or Aaron possibly set up one of the greatest garden path scenes of all time, which would be cool too. But .. there’s no way this was meant to be just a normal conversation. We’re watching something happening inside a written story, where just about every line has meaning and is meant to evoke an impression/feeling/idea in the reader. I guess I could regret saying this later, but I don’t think Aaron would write a 15 page (so far) typical first date chat into one of his books unless all the things mentioned so far would lead to serious implications later on, one way or another. I’m not saying it’s impossible Maddy isn’t planning anything sinister, but in comic/movie/book land, the signs *are* all there.
True that! This comic is NOT “shojo-ai” but in fact a “magical girl – action” type of story.
Tess wouldn’t actually hurt Sera! Well, a little, physicaly, but not too badly, and wouldn’t break her heart!
So while reality would be different, here in comic-land Maddy is being set-up as a possibly dangerous person. Nice call @Phillipa!
@Shakes: You’re not “wrong”! And your viewpoint is interesting! I’m not meaning to argue, eh?
OK. thanks for the reassurance. Kinda felt like I was coming off like a jerk, so it’s nice some folks understood what I was talking about. Nice to see I’m not the only one who noticed that stuff either 😉
Must.. remember.. the name.. of the book…. nope can’t do it *aww! <3*
It is my life goal to make just one thing that can make people feel something like what this page made me feel.
this whole scene with Maddy keeps veering back and forth between ominous and romantic…jeez Aaron…gonna give a guy whiplash here!!! 🙂
Ooooh, I was right! The only thing missing is the carpet and the singing. Maybe next page? 😉
Aww, they’re dancin’! Only thing missing is goblins. 😀
Awww, look at Sera smiling because she is making Maddy happy. This is nine flavours of sweet.

\(^o^)/
I didn’t expect this! This is so awesome, Maddy and Sera enjoying time together. I just hope nothing bad happens afterwards.
Lovely page! Looks like a lot of fun!
Is this a change in the mood or the calm before the storm? Next Tuesday seems so far away…
“You’re doing it Peter! You’re flying!!”
Definitely getting that “Part of your world” vibe from it, and I like it very much.

sorry for rambling.

Absolute minimum, we are meant to *think* something bad is going to happen, even if it doesn’t.
