Oooh, she was Catholic. No wonder she’s had so much trouble with guilt and self-loathing.*
Panel 4, I’m less concerned about Sera’s greyness and more about her mouth vanishing completely. That can’t be comfortable.
Also, glad I wasn’t the only one who had that reaction to Crawlsie’s name. *imaginary fist-bump Maddy*
*(No offense meant to anybody! I was raised Catholic too and some of my family, and my best friend, are Catholic)
I agree, this is wicked cute. All the more worrisome given the title of this chapter. Maddy has the potential to hurt Sera in ways Stiletta couldn’t even have imagined.
Mmmm! I live for the cute! I’m like a cuteness vampire, or perhaps the ‘Cookie Monster’ only for cuteness, not cookies…
Panels 4&5: Om nom nom (< me snacking on the cute)
This page is so gorgeous to look at it damn near made my heart skip a beat or three. I’ve been staring and staring at it and revelling in all the delightful and wondrous details.
I base my pronunciation on having known people named Sera.
Mileage may vary on how you pronounce Serenity, but I hear it most often as . When using the diminutive version (Sera) it makes more sense to alter the pronunciation slightly to the more common than to or .
Cool Fun Fact!
When North American Indians stop breathing? They turn Purple! (not ‘Blue’).
(A girl at my work had ‘waking apnea’ and stopped breathing once…terrified us…)
Their blood looked black during the big fight scene, but I attributed that at the time to the mostly-b&w palette of the comic. Of course now I think about it the humans’ blood (from that other fight scene!) was quite vividly red. Thanks for the knowledge!
Given what we know about her dietary habits, this might not be far from the truth. Maybe the coffee makes her blood blacker. Or perhaps it has a slight green tinge from all the gummy worms….
I don’t see what’s wrong with “Sarah,” personally, but … due to the magic of comics you can totally pronounce it however you want in your head.
I read the first two Harry Potter books thinking that the girl was called Hirmee-own.
I tell you what is wrong… EVERYTHING. This whole damn socity, and our sinister ancestor that lead us to this exact moment. That I have been misslead in thinking something that was false, and destroyed a very tiny bit of my entire world view.
But I’m honestly more suprise how many comments this page got… Wow! ^^

I am pretty sure most Catholics would agree with you on the guilt thing. It’s pretty as much a running gag with them as it is with Jewish comedians.
I know… I just want to be careful not to unintentionally offend people on the internet. When will they get around to inventing that sarcasm-font? 🙂
Man! What a great idea! A sarcastic-font would be sooo useful..

This is Awesome. Thanks for the Font ^^.
Oh.. and Thanks for the greatest webcomic out there.
The cuter this gets, the more worried I become for the future. This is in diabeetus-inducing sugar coma levels right now, guys.

St Hecate. Nice. Somehow I am thinking that parish doesn’t have the approval of Rome.
So Sera’s blood is grey. Has this been mentioned before?
If this parish brings in the money, they will find a way to excuse their nature.
This is almost too adorable for my little heart to handle.
Wow. Very nice details in this page.
BTW, anyone knows how does “Sera” it’s pronounced? I had an in idea but maybe I’m wrong
I’m sorta thinking it’s like “Sarah” but with an e… right?
Anyway, this is probably one of my favorit pages so far. 🙂
Yeah, I also thought it was like that. Thanks.
I also like this page very much ^^.
Exactly the same as “Sarah” or “Sara”. It’s just spelled different.
Oh, Okay.
No, wait. It’s that true? How do you know, Alpha?

Just my take on it. I could be wrong.
Oops, bracketing pronunciations is not a good idea, apparently.
I base my pronunciation on chatting with Aaron a couple of years ago. 😉
I personally assumed it was Sarah because any other way I tried to say it sounded kind of weird. And because I think Sarah is a really witchy name.
Like Sarah Good.
I kinda like to think it’s pronounced like ‘see-rah’ or suhr-ah’. Haven’t quite decided yet. Would be nice to hear what Mr. A thinks.
It’s “Sarah.” Unless you speak a Romance language, I guess: http://www.forvo.com/word/sera/
Pffft! What would YOU know about it?
It’s “seer-a” and that’s a fact!
“see-ra” is also acceptable.
I am, of course, joking! Y’all know that, right?
Checking to see if my Gravatar works…
I think it’s “see-ra” if you’ve got a New Zealand accent.
so wait…sara’s blood is black?
Black or varying shades of grey, depending on how thick it is. “Blackblood” is an old slur for witches in Sera’s world.
oh. that’s a cool fun fact!
“…and now you know…and knowing is half the battle! Gee-Eye-Johhhhhh!” (^.~)
thats insane O_O

When I think ‘Black Blood’, I think coffee. This leads me to the conclusion that Sera’s literally filled with coffee.
Given what we know about her dietary habits, this might not be far from the truth. Maybe the coffee makes her blood blacker. Or perhaps it has a slight green tinge from all the gummy worms….
I refuse to call her Sarah….. I WONT, DAMNIT!!!!!!!11 :'(
I’m with you @Slinker!
See-RAH! See-Rah! Seer-AH! (Or whichever form you prefer over the lame-ness of “Sarah”)

It’s hard to believe that over a year has passed since Vol 3 started. Good work!
Holy cripes, somebody’s paying attention!
I’ve been paying attention since issue two of volume one was posted, ha ha ha.
is there an explanation as to why witches have black blood? does it have any effect on blood tests or other aspects of their biology?
