Who’s blood might that be? Nondescript SSI blood from the earlier incident, or perhaps Tess’? Very foreboding. Though to be fair, I’m still not sure Merrick’s the person he appears to be. So who knows? Tuning in next week to (probably not) find out!
holy cow! O.o
I’m loving how much more blood is in the new pages..
In fact, the whole thing has been a lot more mature….I love it!
and I am super digging Sera’s hair!
perhaps I will make my hair like this, been wanting to for quite some time..
Am I the only one who, quite prosaicly, things that the red thing might actually be goo from the now defunct Mini-Tesses who were swarming him over some pages back?
wow, this page actually got me a little *worried* about Tess fer prolly the first time *ever*. And the way things are going I’m *really* fearing for Lois’ future…. i can just imagine the rescue mission for Tess (who IS alive dammit):
“You girls go on, I’ll hold them off.”
“But Lois….”
“GO!” {ka-KLIKK…..}
maybe worst of all is the thought that, with Lois, it probably WOULDN’T be in vain either.
Leonid — that was my thought too, but I dunno … it seemed like all the tessie-material got pretty well vaporized, not splattered about messily. It could be though. Maybe we’ll find out.
I agree with alphatroll. Losing the color would mean we’d lose a lot of the force of this page. I don’t know if it would still be intelligible … we’d look and ask, what’s all that gray stuff down his front? Maybe a little arrow saying “blood!” in the fifth panel there. (or “tessie-goop” as the case may be)
I love Lois. Trying to inject some humor when Tess might be dead and Sera might be nuts and there’s this creepy blood-spattered spook in her living room…
Tenterhooks. What’s he got in his coat?
I love Lois ’cause to her, that’s not humor. It just seems *natural* to her to explain to the wierdo exactly *what* he’s doing that’s wierd. Alert and vigilant, but thinks first instead of over-reacting. I so wish more cops were like her.
There are a lot of ways the story can go after this page, it seems to be the beginning of another ‘chapter’ if you will, due to the break in the action and change of setting and all. Also, there are only 45 pages left, so we’re looking at the final 1/3 of the book in a little over a month.
And I’m beginning to worry about Lois as well, she’s somewhat pegged into the expendable character group as alphatroll pointed out, but I’m sure it will be some time before we see just what Double A has in store.
yes what is he reaching for under his coat? And is it possible the “girl” in question is not Tess but Stiletto??
Blue has it aright, Mr A is indeed a master of suspense!
Oh god, oh god, no.. Please tell me Tess is okay and whatever he’s reaching for has nothing to do with her being dead.. UGH, I hate waiting a whole week for this stuff, it’s to good to be patient for :[
Lois is awesome, but what I meant to convey was that alphatroll’s little scenario has a high chance of playing out. Not that any of us would like to see anything bad befall Lois, just that running protection for Serenity isn’t a walk in the park and the storyline kinda dictates *someone* will die.
I got it now, Merrick’s here to tell them some of his boys saw “that blonde witch” flying off with a large, unconscious red-haired man. And they recognize her as someone they’ve been watching (or, rather, trying to). And they’re about to rush in with some totally foolhardy, likely-to-end-in-Tess-death plan, which means Sera & Lois will have to move *fast*, and probably against the SSI’s wishes. We might even finally learn Stilletta’s name! (am i the only one to notice it’s *never* appeared in the story?)
Hum. That IS worrying. Red stains are generally not a good sign, especially in such quantities.
Now, see, I’m a bit torn on what to expect next, and this is mainly due to me being unsure what to think of Merrick. I honestly don’t see him as an inherently BAD character or has it out for Sera(something I can deduce from how he talked to her when she had the miniTess captive), nor do I think he’s a complete idiot. If he’s this serious, something serious is going on. And since he probably heard all that was going on, what he’s about to say likely has to do with Tess. BUT, keeping in mind he’s a bit on the unpredictable side, it might not be bad news he has to tell. I guess we’ll wait and see.
LOVE Sera’s hair part.
Foreshadowing to changing character designs in the near future? we’ve seen Vicious in multiple outfits and hairstyles, but Sera in just a few…
>(something I can deduce from how he talked to her when she had the miniTess captive),
I wouldn’t count on it being sympathy, as much as bartering for something (the Mini Tess) he wanted. “Sure, sure, hon, all’s cool… now gimme the little bugger, willya?”
Weeeeeellll I’m not sure I’d call these pages “cliffhangers,” exactly…
I read somewhere that the last panel of every comic page ought to include some little bit that makes the audience eager to move on to the next page. Nothing cataclysmic, necessarily, just something… unfinished. In this page I’ve got a guy, y’know… reaching into his pocket. Not exactly Commado Cody’s car hurtling over a cliff.
Anyway. I don’t know if it’s something you HAVE to do, but I do it. If you check out the first book, it’s full of those kind of “cliffhangers.” You just don’t notice them as much because waiting one second is a lot different than waiting ONE WEEK.
Which is another good reason to up the frequency of this here doohickey.
>In this page I’ve got a guy, y’know… reaching into his pocket. Not exactly Commado Cody’s car hurtling over a cliff.
That’s the wonder of writing, drawing comics or trying to direct an RPG game without experiencing overwhelming desire to vivisect your players- you can just leave things hanging, and you can always count on the imagination of your mates coming up with a bazillion different outcomes. Get them all together in one wee shoutbox and you’ve got a brainstorming of the scale which can make far away galaxies shatter into cataclysmic supernovas. You don’t need to want to create suspense, you just prod us hin and yon with the stick of your narrative and we get all suspense’d all by ourselves XD
>Which is another good reason to up the frequency of this here doohickey.
I know the rest of the fans are going to drop an aircraft carrier full of bloodshot-eyed SSI soldats on me for saying this, but I personally enjoy the rhythm as it is. It makes you avare of the little details. It has you going back to the page and peering at the panels daring them to give a clue as to the develompment of the plot until you notice all the details or get voices in your head ordering you to create mayhem and bake lemon pie. Well, maybe that’s just me. It makes you aware of the “not-so-big cliffhangers”. You get more involved and devote more thought to it than if you just went thorugh it on the bus on your way to work, “hm-hm, now he puts his hand in his purse, oh it was a (CLASSIFIED), cool one Merrick, pal, hm hm oh look now…).
Personally, I enjoy looking forward to Wednesdays. I mean, come on, I’m on semi-permanent unemployed status anyways, at least lemme have something to look forward to besides bills…

Ah Lois, you so dry of wit.
Sera looks fantastic in profile here.
holy cow! O.o

did i mention lack of color would totally ruin this page?
That looks like a man on a mission, this will not end well!
O_O
I’m scared now… kinda like I was at the end of issue 3…
Leonid — that was my thought too, but I dunno … it seemed like all the tessie-material got pretty well vaporized, not splattered about messily. It could be though. Maybe we’ll find out.

God! i can’t take this one page per week stuff! I have to know if tess is okay NOW!
STOP MAKING ME WANT TO KNOW THINGS WITHOUT GIVING MORE!!!
Auggh, I have to wait another week. :C

GRAGH.
My must you be such a master of suspense!?
Okay, Aaron. NOW you’re just being mean.
yes what is he reaching for under his coat? And is it possible the “girl” in question is not Tess but Stiletto??
Blue has it aright, Mr A is indeed a master of suspense!
eek what happened?
Hi. Found your comic a couple of weeks ago. Went through the archive this weekend. *LOVE* it! Count me as a fan!
Oh god, oh god, no.. Please tell me Tess is okay and whatever he’s reaching for has nothing to do with her being dead.. UGH, I hate waiting a whole week for this stuff, it’s to good to be patient for :[
Gary, I don’t see how Alphatroll suggested that Lois was an expendable character…o.O He simply said that she was awesome sauce…
and Reynard, if you like this part to the story, you should read the first five volumes! 😀 they’re fantastic!
Lois is awesome, but what I meant to convey was that alphatroll’s little scenario has a high chance of playing out. Not that any of us would like to see anything bad befall Lois, just that running protection for Serenity isn’t a walk in the park and the storyline kinda dictates *someone* will die.
Again, we’ll just have to wait to find out. Ugh.

oh, and Lois isn’t so much “expendable” as “likely plot chow”, but close enough 😉
Agh! Again with the cliffhangers!

RANSOM NOTE! *that’s* what Merrick’s pulling out of his pocket!
(oh, and jus’ noticed Lois said he’d been at the hospital, where the wounded SSi guys were bleeding, thus the quantities of red on….)
