This is my feelings on this subject;
1) Zoe (Stiletta) are trying to convince through guilt that Sara not leave her friends and go off to England to be a better witch.
2) Skarsdayle smokes, Zoe smokes, ever seen Stiletta, Skarsdayle, and Zoe in the same room together?
3) The cave was full of new and used monsters that Rivet can use in his act. Persuade Sara that she will always have these monsters wherever she goes. Why not work for Rivet and have him destroy it on a regular bases so no one gets hurt.
Teehee, I love Zoe… though I’m prolly a bit biased since we share the name name. π good advice….
I wanna be able to shape shift and make my hair turn colors. XP
Another lovely page. I can’t get enough of the see-through blue hair, hehe.
Also, I saw your guest strip for Wapsi Square today and squeed so hard. One of my favorite artists doing a strip for one of my other favorite comics?! WORLDS COLLIDING GLORIOUSLY.
Sure, this again is my opinion on this so listen before you start barking “Shut up”
1) Stiletta whom is a witch that I’m assuming has some massive powers is working for Skarsdayle. Skarsdayle wanted Sara to work for Rivet to build new and improve side show ectoplasm scary things. Why kill what you want to keep? If Stiletta wanted Sara dead she would be, however, why not trick her into believing that all the craziness that happening in Crestfallen is Sara’s fault.
2) Which lead to this point. If someone wants to manipulate you into believing their point of view, then why not lead them down a different path of thought process. Zoe didn’t listen to Sara but continued to speak on what she believed is wrong with Sara. Therefore planting a seed of guilt about leaving her friends behind.
Reading for the first time today, commenting for the first time. Love the comic, love the storyline even though catching up with characters is something of a task.
Beautiful art throughout! Now just need to follow the RSS and wait for the next instalment.
Granted, Station, But i would think if Zoe is really Stilleta, there would be some clue that would link the two together. For instance, there was this Goosebumps episode where the main charater found out that his best friend was turned into a dog when he saw the dog with the same blue/brown eye color pattern as his friend’s.
Nukey: Yeah, that’s what I mean. She doesn’t usually have eyebrows (and I think it was actually pointed out in the free-comic day thingie that witches usually don’t), which leads me to believe she morphs some on there when she wants to be dramatic.
On the subject of Sera’s eyebrows: It’s been stated that withes don’t have eyebrows, and this is true for Sera. Here they are still absent. The lines you see are creases made by the muscles under where eyebrows would be moving. They’d cast shadows.
On the subject of Zoe and Zoe=Stiletta?: I am rather fond of Zoe. She’s pretty fly. That’s great advice she just gave, for one thing. As for her being Stiletta, well…I have a number of theories aout who Stiletta could be. One option is, indeed, that this here Zoe is a disguised Stiletta. This isn’t a very likely one, though. Stiletta could also be another conjuration of Sera’s distressed mind. More likely, she’s another witch entirely, the one residing in that cave with all the BLAGHified storybook characters.
Personally, I prefer to think of this as a look into the quirks of Sera’s stepmom than a time of suspension before a trap is sprung.
There is nothing out of control in this page.
If chaos is the lack of control, and control is an illusion fostered by those who believe they have the control, then guided chaos is true control, controlled by those who take charge of the reins of their own destiny.
-sorry. i don’t know where that came from- and i’m sorry if this doesn’t seem relevant to but a few- i just think it applies to some of the comments concerning this installment, and the installment itself.
Honestly, I find the whole Zoe/Stiletta controversy pointless. Stiletta has almost no air time, so there’s no solid basis on which to get to know her motivations or way of acting, so we’ll never know. Following that circular logic, Stiletta could be Zoe in disguise. Or Tess in disguise. Or a cute kitten in disguise. Or a lamppost in disguise. How are we to know, if we don’t know the “real” Stiletta to draw a comparison?
Oh, and by the way, the “Zoe smokes, Skars smokes, they never appear together, ergo…”
Guys. Srsly. If you can’t think good arguments for your points, just admit it. At least you won’t look stupid.
I have brought all three books that you made or you were the artist for. Pretty cool stuff. Yes, I can see that I have poor grammer skills. When you have finished with this new volume, do you have any plans to turn it into a paperbook or as an e-book or perhaps both?
I like how the first volume seems to set the stage for the second volume. That you did not tie off plot lines too quickly just because the volume is coming to a close. The characters seem to be realistic. Too bad you don’t show anything of the dad, I know he is dead but for someone that seems to be quite important to Rose there doesn’t seem to be any family pictures of him around.
The SSI seem scary but at the same time they do seem too bad. Rivethead though seems like a lost little kid that has been molded into something horrible. This scarsdale lady is lot scarier than the SSI.
Station, the main problem with your theory it that Zoe is already an anti-stereotype. Stepmothers are expected to be wicked. Zoe is apparently not, so if it were to turn out that it’s all a sham, it would convey the message that fairy-tale stereotypes must be true and you’re a fool to think there might be exceptions. I know enough about storytelling traditions to recognize this, and I’m certain Aaron does too. He would not create such a story unless he _wanted_ to convey the above message. And it is abundantly clear from his other work that he absolutely does _not_ want to do so. Therefore, unless Aaron’s entire career is a sham to make us vulnerable to his nasty message*, then Zoe is absolutely not Stiletta.
BTW, I happen to concur with Joseph’s comment and yet have nothing but contempt for economists and the assumption that their pseudo-scientific work has any value whatsoever. I don’t know if it’s relevent, take it as you will.
*…. which, come to think of it, would make Good Aaron/Evil Aaron an almost perfect parrallel for Zoe/Stilletta….. surely Evil Aaron would be clever enough not to reveal his secret identity so blatantly, wouldn’t it? Unless we _are_ living in a comic book reality, of course….. π
. . . .which is why i love this page & the previous one. no anger, nothing scary, just a much-needed respite from all the tension. love it, love it, love it.
Okay, about the “in-the-same-room” subject, why would two antaganists be in the same room with a minor protagonist character if they don’t even know the other exists? You’ve got to be logical here, Station. Sure, the whole “leading-down-a-path” thing is pretty good plot-wise, but Zoe doesn’t even know about Stilletta.
IF they were the same person, that’d be an awesome twist. Quit bringing it up and upsetting everyone. When it comes, just say, “I TOLD YOU SO!”
just a very HIGHLY overdue and late thot here, but it occurs to me…..
— in “Ask Vicious”, Sera said witches don’t reproduce. Stilletta *seems* to be a witch, and is specifically called such in the character intros for the current storyline.
— Zoe is Maryanne’s mom, at least according to Sara and her dad and everyone else who knew Zoe for those particular 9 months.
granted, a witch could *fake* pregnancy, but unless there were some shenanigans in the delivery room, or the MA and all her 7-ish years are just a highly realistly ecto-construct or something, or Sera was just *wrong* about the reproduction thing and V (who ought to know, what with being brought up by Dame Glaurie Thorpe and all) didn’t correct her, once again it’s no dice. sorry, Station!
Ah, the wise and virtuous stepmother. (: Zoe really is quite fantastic.
It’s both awesome and tantalizing how the story keeps switching gears……
Janey, I didn’t realise that today was comic day..
awwww….thats such profound advice…what a wonderful step mother
Lovely advice! ^_^ Great panels too! π
i wanna have Zoe for a stepmom too!

SHUT UP STATION!
Hey “Some Guy”
Come with me to the other side of rationalized thinking. We have cookies…
Okay… does Sera have eyebrows in this? Well, shape-shifting, I guess she can have eyebrows if she wants.
i wonder if that’s what Sera’s thinking about (Tess)?
but i bet she’s thinking about the girl from many
years ago, the one that was bullied.
and i don’t know why but Zoe looks a little like the
actress Tea Leoni from “Ghost Town”.
Teehee, I love Zoe… though I’m prolly a bit biased since we share the name name. π good advice….

Zoe isn’t Stiletta or Skarsdayle.
I smoke. My mom smokes. A few of my friends smoke.
WE MUST BE THE SAME PERSON.
Eddy: Her eyebrows are right above her eyelids, making expressions for her.
oh, gee… I guess your right. You, your mother, and your friends all live in comic book land too…
Station: if Zoe was Stiletta, why why didn’t she kill Sera already?
huh?
huh?!
huh?!?
…and why would stiletta give sera advice?
Sure, this again is my opinion on this so listen before you start barking “Shut up”

Yeah, Sleepy_Eyes is right about the eyebrow thing. I just let her little brow-ridge-muscle-thingees get a little out of hand.
Although I guess she COULD grow eyebrows any time she wanted…
If I had her powers, I’d grow a full rage-beard whenever things got too crazy.

Joseph, you must have an economics major? Truly the “Planned Chaos” theory by Dr. Mises. Y’know, Nietzsche says: “Out of chaos comes order.”
