She’s over educated, egotistical and has had nothing but fawning praise for her entire life and now her world view and self image have been shattered. The question is; will she have a cry, examine her life and then try to fix things or will she have a tantrum?
Also, is Sera a bit of a dick? I mean she is awfully judgey and righteous isn’t she?
Your absolutely right.
What I meant was she seems to have far more FORMAL education than she needs to do what she does. Which seems to have been at the expense of the development of her social skills.
Exactly, what is more heartbreaking than having your entire worldview and sense of self called into question? The fact that she’s never faced aserious criticism before just makes it more earth shattering. I don’t exactly sympathise with her, but I cam see how it could affect her.
Maybe that’s the look of surprise: It’s all V’s crafted stuff and Sera has imposed her will upon V’s, which I believe is the first time such an event has happened. We’ve seen two witch created objects go head to head in a fight but not any direct manipulation of another’s witch crafted works.
Are you sue the garden is ‘spell cast’, that seems kind of pointless to me?
Now that I consider it. Vandalizing V’s garden and killing plants that she’s put years of love and care into is quite despicable. V’s meddling was well intentioned and totally harmless – even if a little annoying. I can’t think of any justification for what Sera did.
This is not just about V meddling in Seras personal life. This is about V meddling with the entire Crestfallen, go back to the first part when they are having dinner with the mayor. She wants to change the city to some sort of former glory without much thought about the people in the city thinks. Sera just makes a point by doing same she wants with her garden. Take notice that she has deformed it to a copy of Crestfallen. “IT’S NOT YOURS.”
Good spotting.
I got the impression that V was just really enthusiastic about rejuvenating the towns spell cast features, consequently setting up conflict with Tess who’s father built the mechatronic attractions – and also making Sera doubt her mentor. I didn’t realize she was planning on acting unilaterally.
I kind of get the impression that V is preparing Sera for something that she isn’t capable of understanding yet.
Just reread this book because I figured I’d missed something.
The only damage V has done is trash the Dark Room. I’d imagine she intends to rebuild it but she’s been preoccupied with something off screen (the concert was only two nights ago).
The only intentions she has revealed for the town is to get more witches in to build a “community” of witches.
And Tess’ anger at V is entirely misplaced. V likes her fathers work (it was the mayor who was talking about “classing the place up”).
It is also entirely possible that Sara is wrong about V playing cupid. V may well be in dire need of an assistant, but bot yet figured out how to use her (imagine a small business owner who hires an assistant, but then realizes she has no comprehensible systems in place).
Whatever the reality of the situation is its going to be awesome.
V’s “Finally” implies heavily that playing cupid was precisely what she was doing.
V has a strong tendency toward manipulation and machinations, even if they are mostly benign in their intent, it is still a crappy way to treat other people. It is disrespectful of their agency.
Sera doesn’t like being pushed and manipulated into situations (nor do most of us). Stilleta tried to do it to her with Rivethed. Plus Maddy’s little speech about witches using and manipulated people likely made an impact.
Sera didn’t kill anything; she just used her magic to reshape the living plants. Kinda like super-accelerated macro-bonsai.
BTW, bottom left appears to be the statue from the top of the diner, with the crow clock in front of it. Sera sculpted the garden into a representation of the town. Kind of how V turned the Darkroom into a representation of herself. Sera’s teaching V a lesson about boundaries.
(totally unrelated to anything, please ignore) There are a lot of witches with Vs in their names/nicknames. V/Vicious/Victoria, Valentine, Rivet Hed (Marvin Garden), even Stiletta’s real last name is Van Vedeker… I think Sera’s the only on-screen (as in, not in a flashback) witch that doesn’t have a V in her name. I’m probably the hundredth person to point this out. It’s just been gnawing at me and I wanted to say something.
I’m as gripped by the coming end as the rest of you, but guys, can we talk for a minute about how damn GOOD these illustrations are? I mean, Aaron’s always been one of my favorite artists, but these past several pages have sent my freakin’ jaw to the floor on every day that begins with a T. This one being no exception.
Is the reason why I keep coming here constantly. I’m struggling a lot with my own comic project, and to see a new page get made every week of this quality get made is just so darn mind-blowing.
Am I the only one who feels sorry for V? I mean, Sera was just like V if it’s a question of having nothing but “fawning praise for her entire life and now her world view and self image have been shattered.”.. Sera accepted V as her mentor and, honestly, V hasn’t really done anything to deserve this.. V was simply trying to help Sera come out of her shell (and from the looks of things, I suppose she has.) and maybe even become *friends* with her. I think V wanted to explore the town’s new potential, since the clock-tower began ticking again, WITH Sera and definitely not according to just her own desires.
I feel sorry for V in the way that this is an entirely new experience for her. People not getting along with her, people she wants to be loved by. But I think she’ll actually learns something valuable because here. And she does that in good company, among the people she would actually listen to. I find it really hard to think that she and Sera wont recover from this.
I do. Nobody has said anything to her about being unhappy with her (except Tess who is way off target), and then suddenly WHAM!
The only thing she has done that anybody has a right to be unhappy about is leave the Dark Room in ruins – but that was less than two days ago. Maybe she has more urgent things to worry about, maybe she’s just at the limit of her stamina and needs time to recharge?
And I’m standing by my theory that V hasn’t fixed the Dark Room yet because she’s been busy doing something important, or protecting something or someone from something bad – seriously, nobody has wondered what V has been up to since the concert.
Maybe it is V whose heart is broken.

… still love them both but the questions stand.
Agree on most points except one- I really don’t think there’s any such thing as ‘over’-educated.
Your absolutely right.

She’s probably just gonna give Sera her approval and a few bits o criticism on the placement of the spirals ‘n shit.
Not because she doesn’t take the point, she just doesn’t particularly feel like performing “humbled” for Sera.
I dunno – she looks kind of shellshocked. Remember, this was /her home/. Handcrafted by her will.
This is, in a roundabout way, like having your lounge trashed by visitors.
Maybe that’s the look of surprise: It’s all V’s crafted stuff and Sera has imposed her will upon V’s, which I believe is the first time such an event has happened. We’ve seen two witch created objects go head to head in a fight but not any direct manipulation of another’s witch crafted works.

Well it said “IT IS NOT ALL YOURS”, meee soo stuuupid.
Good spotting.

Did not notice it was a mini-Crestfallen when I looked at it on my iPod this morning. Oops!
Sera didn’t kill anything; she just used her magic to reshape the living plants. Kinda like super-accelerated macro-bonsai.

Oooh, only 5 and a half pages left. And there is just so much Sera and V could take about right now. Great page!

In other news, AHH SO CLOSE TO THE END.
“Rivethed” seems to be pushing it for making connections to the letter “V”.
But his real name is Marvin Garden which also has a V -shrugs-
I thought Mz.V was taking it well (last page) but now she does, indeed, look ‘shell shocked’!
Sera and Crawlsie have turned her garden into a parody of Crestfallen? Genius! Plain and simple.
Nice work, girls!
